Our approach

Research
Our vibrant team of researchers, world-leaders in their fields, strive to learn more about how to support and treat people living with mental health and substance use concerns.
We invest in in-house learning for our clinical and administrative staff as well as mental health care providers around BC. We want to ensure that everyone working with people living with mental health and substance use concerns have access to the most up-to-date treatment information.

Partnerships
Our research and learning activities are done in partnership with academic institutions, community services, health care organizations and people with lived experience of mental illness and substance use.
We also partner with these organizations to adapt to changing priorities, strengthen capacity, and advance system-level improvement.

Transforming care and systems
Delivering the best care possible
Transforming care through research
Research and learning are the pillars that support our clinical practice. We know that to deliver the best care possible to clients, patients and families, and to improve our mental health care system, we need to invest in scientific research and continuous learning.
We are focused on research that will improve the lives of:
- People with complex mental illness and addiction
- People who have been incarcerated or who are currently in custody
- People who have been found not criminally responsible due to mental disorder
