About Us
Most of our services are for people who have tried other treatment options with their local health authorities and need more specialized care. Our services are for adults. Visit the BC Children’s Hospital website to learn about support and treatment options for children.
We also lead knowledge exchange, health promotion and health literacy.
Accessing our services
A referral from a health professional is required to access our services. We do not provide crisis support.
If you or someone you know are in crisis or an emergency:

Leading provincial change
As a provincial leader, BCMHSUS also participates in transformative research, knowledge exchange, and systems change. The program also provides resources to health professionals across the province, and beyond.
We provide provincial leadership through:
- Funding, partnerships, and stewardship
- Knowledge translation and exchange
- Health promotion, health literacy and stigma reduction
- Mental health and substance use teaching and research
- Mental health and substance use care systems improvement
We also develop:
- Frameworks, standards and guidelines for mental health and substance use services for people with complex needs
- Virtual health initiatives to ensure British Columbians can get the mental health and substance use care they need, wherever they are, and in ways that work for them
