About the research institute
Through research, we aim to transform care and treatment for people:
- with mental health and substance use issues
- who are in custody
- who have been found not criminally responsible due to a mental disorder
We encourage innovative thinking and approaches in mental health and substance use research to:
- Generate new knowledge
- Work in partnership with researchers and academic institutions, clinicians, people with lived and living experience and other stakeholders across BC
- Integrate research evidence developed with people with lived and living experience of health care
- Ground our work in equity, diversity and inclusion and Indigenous health research ethics
Research institute team
Learn more about the research team and operational staff who are part of the research institute, based at the Translational Research Building on the Oak Street campus in Vancouver. Some work takes place at BCMHSUS clinical program sites, including θəqiʔ ɫəwʔənəq leləm’ (the Red Fish Healing Centre for Mental Health and Addiction) and the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital.
The institute's researchers have academic affiliations with either the University of British Columbia or Simon Fraser University.
