BCMHSUS employee receives national research excellence prize
Clayon Hamilton led a research team that recently received the Canadian Institutes of Health Research – Institute of Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis Inclusive Research Excellence Prize in the category of Patient Engagement.
An employee from BC Mental Health and Substance Use Services (BCMHSUS) has received national recognition.
Clayon Hamilton, PhD and knowledge exchange lead on the BCMHSUS Strategic Initiatives team, led a research team in a previous role that recently received the Canadian Institutes of Health Research – Institute of Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis Inclusive Research Excellence Prize in the category of Patient Engagement.
“It's really an honour to have received this recognition of our contributions to advancing patient engagement," says Hamilton. “I look forward to continuing to make an impact on patient engagement here in British Columbia. Listening to, and integrating the voices of, people with lived experience in shaping research and care, improves the system of care for people who experience mental health and substance use issues."
This competitive prize of $25,000 recognizes the international impact of evidence-based tools Hamilton's team developed to promote meaningful patient engagement in research.
BCMHSUS is using these tools, the Patient Engagement in Research Scale (PEIRS-22) and the PEIR Framework, in a learning series to build capacity for applying a patient-oriented research approach within the BCMHSUS research community.
