Provincial Mental Health & Substance Use Learning Rounds return
A new slate of topics and expert presentations begins on Feb. 9 with "The UNITE project - Disrupting Stigma for Better Care," which will cover the impact of stigma in health care on people with mental health and substance use challenges.
"Learning Rounds began as an internal platform for BCMHSUS staff to build their capacity and learn from one another," said Jordan Brewer, interim lead, Learning and Development, BC Mental Health and Substance Use Services. "We quickly learned that the content was relevant and useful to a wider audience of professionals so we expanded the series, making it available to anyone in B.C. who would benefit from insight into these kinds of topics."
Provincial Mental Health and Substance Use Learning Rounds take place every second Thursday from noon-1 p.m. and include a presentation, followed by an interactive Q&A. They are intended to support staff, service providers, researchers and partners to share current and emerging research, evidence and practices that have the capacity to improve care within mental health and substance use programs. Learning Rounds also create a forum to identify and address system-level issues or barriers to accessing services, and to explore topics that are informed by ongoing engagement with people with lived and living experience.
The spring schedule includes topics related to patient and family engagement, stigma, mental health in corrections, harm reduction and much more yet to be announced.
