Your safety is a priority
As part of every CHS employee’s onboarding, there are many resources available to support safety education and awareness, including Provincial Violence Prevention Curriculum, PHSA psychological health and safety resources, and a facility tour.
PHSA is working towards an inclusive and culturally safe environment and addressing existing inequities and barriers throughout our systems. Indigenous employees are invited to use PHSA’s dedicated resources and support for Indigenous team members, including work hours to access services.
We know safety looks different for everyone. While resources are provided, we also empower employees to seek out additional support when needed to suit individual safety needs. Employee’s managers and nurse educators can provide guidance, mentorship, and support across a variety of situations.
Correctional officers escort the client to the care unit or a nurse is escorted by officers to the client.
Yes! There is ample support to help you develop in your career. Including a robust orientation and client care coordinators/nurse educators that can provide guidance.
Candidates interested in working at CHS and who are new to working in a Correctional environment often want to know what our safety measures are. Some of the safety measures in place are:
- Security protocols are in place.
- Required Provincial Violence Prevention Curriculum.
- Each nurse has a personal alarm transmitter.
- Psychological health & safety teams to offer support.
- Employee & Family Assistance Program that provides professional, confidential, and proactive service to support you with a wide range of personal, family, and work-related concerns.
Correctional Health Services works with BC Corrections as partners in client care. While the Correctional Health Services team provides health care, correctional officers support the safety of both staff and clients. To learn more about B.C.’s correctional centres, visit the B.C.
